I don't know about you, but clowns really frighten me. I don't think I'd ever want to look like one, even though they're scary and all. Still. They look like clowns. Or professional wrestlers. Not so good. There are a few methods to applying white makeup that won't make you look all, you know, Bozo.
Why do clowns look like that? Well, clowns usually use a very thick grease paint. That white clown look doesn't look like skin. They don't look mysterious or pale or "vampiric". They look silly. Like clowns. And if you use a thick usually cheap, costume shop grease paint, that's how you will look, silly.
The steps needed to looky morbidly pale or undead and not clownlike are blend, blend and blend. First, start off with either a liquid foundation lighter than your normal foundation or a white liquid foundation. You can blend white with your normal foundation. This will give you a nice pale customizable blend. Apply as you normally do. Remember your neck! And your hairline! Otherwise you will look like you're wearing a mask. Your skin doesnt stop at your neck!
Now you can top off with a powder, a cosmetic powder. Talcum powder really never looks very right. Use either a lighter than normal powder, a white powder, or again, blend the two together! Go light with powder at first. You can always add more later.
