Gothic Tips on protecting your Skin

Fortunately for goths, the pale skin look has always been in. We don't have the same pressure to tan as other subcultures do. However, just because you do not actively seek a "golden glow", doesn't mean that alone is enough to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

1. Sunblock. Fortunately, we now have many choices in applying sunblock which won't damage our makeup or "look"! The easiest to remember is a morning moisturizer that contains sunblock. Just make it part of your daily routine. Similarly, many liquid foundations also now come with sunblock. However it can be hard to find these in the lightest of the light shades that many goths desire.

2. Parasols. parosols are both beautiful and practical!

3. Long sleeves and tights. Both provide some level of protection. Drawback is that sometimes it's just too hot!

4. Knee hi's. When tights are simply out of the question, cute knee hi's can be the answer.

5. Don't burn! Most doctors agree that some sun is actually good for you. It enables your body to absorb vitamin D.  A lack of vitamin D can actually lead to fatique and calsium loss! The danger lies in burning. And skin can burn fairly quickly. How quickly you will burn depends on several factors; how light your skin naturally is, the lighter you are, the quicker you will burn, the time of the day, we burn fastest between 10AM and 4PM.

10- 15 minutes of sunlight at least twice a week allows adequate time for Vitamin D synthesis. After ten to fifteen minutes- get the sunscreen on!
